What is Confirmation?

Here's a preview of the August 25th lesson:

What is CONFIRMATION all about?
Confirmation is about claiming the Christian faith for yourself. It's taking everything you have learned about God and taking the next step in faith. It's also about making Chapelwood your church home, where you will worship, serve & and make friends.

When I was little my favorite aunt liked to give a puzzle to our family at Christmas.
My family would spend the rest of Christmas vacation working those beautiful and difficult puzzles. I'll never forget the one of a tiger standing in tall grass!

In some ways, a puzzle is a great image to help us think about the Confirmation year and about our faith. Lots of pieces make up our year together in Confirmation:
Sunday a.m. Classes
Retreats
Fellowship(fancy word for Christian friendship)
Service
Worship
Prayer

Over the next school year,we will spend time doing all of these things together. And beyond this year, these pieces will continue to be part of your life as a Christian. You will always be able to grow in your faith by going to a class,
or on retreat,
through Christian friendship,
by serving others,
worshipping God,
and being a person of prayer.

Read these bible verses slowly and carefully.

We live by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:17

Questions:
How is your faith like a puzzle?
What message does God have for you in these bible verses?

Am I Ready for Confirmation?

A few weeks ago, I had a conversation around the question, "How do we know if our kids are ready to go through Confirmation?" While there are some things that are probably helpful to know or learn before starting Confirmation, there are other things to consider as we get ready for the year leading up to professing our Christian faith and joining the church.

The questions may be something like this...
Am I ready to try new things that will stretch and grow my faith?
Am I willing to meet new people & talk with them about my faith?
Am I open to experiencing God in new ways?
Can I begin to pay attention to what God is doing in my life?
Do I have an interest in the people & traditions of faith who have come before me?
